There is a constant in all our lives in which we all interact with daily: food. Food is a powerful vehicle for developing community. We sit down for meals with friends and families, share recipes across generational gaps, and often are given food as a welcome into another’s home or space.

As individuals, each of us have grown up eating and cooking things that are specific to our own lives and have each developed our own connections to our food. These connections become rooted deeply in our identity and culture.

When we share a recipe with someone, they can get a glimpse into your own experiences and possibly provide a chance for some connection, understanding, and a little more unity. Our project’s goal is to use the sharing of recipes to promote a greater sense of community here at Carnegie Mellon, allowing you share your individualized relationships to foods you eat and cook in a playful and warm way.

Recipe Card Design

Pop up Experience

We set up a booth on Carnegie Mellon’s campus where we layed out empty recipe cards, writing materials, link to a future archive, and a “table setting” with our visual identity to accompany.

People on campus stopped to fill out a card and have conversations with us about food, memories, and everything in between. By the end of the day, we had a book filled with memories and recipes, which we archived on our site. .
